The Metal Shop
Welcome to our metalworking shop! We offer a wide variety of tools and equipment to help you with your metalworking projects.
About our metal shop
Metalworking and blacksmithing are ancient and essential crafts that have shaped human history by producing tools, weapons, and objects of beauty. At our shop, we are committed to providing you with high-quality tools and equipment to help you create the perfect metalworking project. Whether you are a professional metalworker or a DIY enthusiast, we have the tools you need to get the job done. Here are some of the most common tools you can find in a metalworking shop:
- Welding equipment: Welding equipment is used to join pieces of metal together.
- Power saws: Power saws are used to cut metal into specific shapes and sizes. We offer a range of saws including band saws, circular saws, and chop saws.
- Grinders: Grinders are used to remove material from metal surfaces to create a smooth finish. We offer both handheld and bench grinders.
- Drill press: A drill press is a machine tool used to create holes in metal. It provides greater accuracy and control than a handheld drill.
- Sheet metal tools: We offer a variety of sheet metal tools including snips, punches, and shears. These tools are used to cut and shape sheet metal for various projects.
- Forge: A forge is a furnace used to heat metal to a high temperature so that it can be shaped with a hammer on an anvil. In a blacksmithing shop, the forge is typically fueled by coal, charcoal, or propane.
- Anvil and Hammers: An anvil is a heavy block of metal with a flat surface and a horn (pointed end) used to shape heated metal. Hammers, including ball-peen, cross-peen, and rounding hammers, are used to strike the metal on the anvil and shape it into desired forms.
Blacksmithing is a unique craft that requires a specific set of tools. At our metalworking shop, we offer a variety of blacksmithing tools, including forges, anvils, and hammers, to help you bring your creative vision to life. Whether you are a professional blacksmith or a beginner, we have the tools you need to get started. If you are new to blacksmithing, we have a variety of books available in our library to help you get started.
Our Metal working tools
MIG Welder
MIG welders and flux-cored wire welders are easy to learn and can be used in a variety of applications that use steel, stainless steel, and aluminum (spool gun only). Our Hobart MIG Welder is A durable, portable wire feed welder that’s great for auto repairs, home, or farm projects. Runs on 115V input power, welds up to 1/4 in. mild steel, and is flux-cored or MIG-ready.
Plasma Cutter
Plasma cutters use an electrical arc and compressed air to cut steel, aluminum, and other conductive metals. The AirForce® line of plasma cutters is easy to learn and assists with precise cuts for maintenance, light construction, prototyping, body shops, and metal fabrication. Our plasma cutter is the AirForce® 12ci with a built-in air compressor that runs on 120V input power and can clean cut up to 1/8” steel.
Drill Press
A drill press is a machine tool used in metalworking to accurately drill holes in metal by clamping the workpiece to a table, aligning the drill bit with the desired location, and lowering the spinning drill bit onto the metal surface using a lever or a feed handle.
Bench Grinder
A bench grinder is a versatile tool used in metalworking to remove material from metal surfaces and create a smooth finish by holding the workpiece against the grinding wheel, moving it back and forth across the wheel to remove material, and adjusting the angle of the workpiece to achieve the desired shape and finish.
Files and Rasps
Files and rasps are handheld tools used in metalworking to remove material from metal surfaces and shape them by holding the tool at an angle against the metal surface and pushing it in a back-and-forth motion, called “filing,” to remove small amounts of material, or using a “draw filing” technique, which involves pulling the file across the metal surface to smooth out irregularities and achieve the desired shape and finish.
Snips and Saws
Snips and saws are cutting tools used in metalworking to cut and shape metal. Snips are handheld tools used to cut sheet metal and other thin materials by placing the snips at the desired location and squeezing the handles together to make the cut. Saws are used to cut metal into specific shapes and sizes.
